CPA marketing instead of Pay per click

June 19, 2009 by theinternetmarketingfreak

A lot of online companies are trying to figure out the best way to reach potential customers. The best way to do this would be to reach a ton of people with out putting out a ton of money. There are two ways of doing this, the first way is CPA marketing and the second is pay per click marketing.

The first method is becoming a growing trend because it is more specific and more cost effective. CPA marketing stands for cost per action and is paid out by the potential customer completing a specific task decided on by the company. For example, if a lawn servicing company was paying a CPA marketing agency, they might want their specific task to have potential customers complete a form for a free estimate on their lawn. Then each time a customer completes the form to have a free estimate, the lawn servicing company would pay the agency a small fee. This is a growing trend because it is more specific and can lead to more sales, rather than someone randomly clicking on a link. If you were paying per click, you might be paying out a lot of money, but not getting enough sales to make it worth your while.

Common CPA marketing mistake

Online adverting is the popular thing to do for smaller companies. Out on the world wide web, marketing can be a difficult thing because it’s such a vast area. One way to narrow your area down is to implement a CPA marketing technique. CPA marketing stands for cost per action and can be very useful and beneficial if done correctly. In this type of marketing, you would hire a CPA marketing agency to run ads for your company and select a task you want completed by each customer. Then the agency will get paid on each completed task. If the customer doesn’t complete the task, the agency will not paid for that customer.

This can be a very cost effective way of advertising, but once again, if not done correctly, can be a costly mistake. Once you have your CPA marketing agency picked out and have your ads running, be sure that you are very specific about what task you want completed. If you are a shopping site, you don’t want your specific task to be clicking on a particular link. This task can be quite expensive because people will click on a lot of things. You would want your task to be to create a free account on your site. This will really weed out the serious purchasers from the browser. Once a person registers on your site, the more likely they are to actually purchase something. This will really help you determine if your marketing dollars are working.

How CPA marketing works

If you are not a marketing major, all these abbreviations can be confusing. But every small business owner should learn how CPA marketing works, it might save you thousands of dollars on advertising. CPA marketing stands for cost per action advertising and it boils down to this simple idea: you pay only for what you actually get. This means that you have a specific task that you want your potential clients to complete and once they complete that task, you pay for that advertisement.

For example, I have an online travel agency. I recently hired a CPA marketing agency that will run my advertisements for me, but will require guests to complete a survey. Once I get the information off the completed survey, I would pay the agency for each completed one. The reason why I choose this type of marketing is because there are a lot of people that like to look, but are not serious about buying from me. I wanted to only pay for the serious buyers. The agency is willing to do this because they will run my ad until I receive one hundred completed surveys. I am not paying for thousands of people to view my site. I am paying for the few hundred people that are actually serious about booking a trip through me.

CPA marketing makes more sense

About a year ago, my sister’s online book store was almost ready to shut down. She was spending quite a bit of money adverting with bigger sites and not really seeing any positive results. About three months ago, my marketing class was discussing CPA marketing, or more commonly known as cost per action marketing. We discussed the main idea behind it which is that an advertiser will pay only for the prospective client completing a specific task. In my sister’s case, she would choose her specific task as registering an valid email address. So every time a customer would register an email address on her site, she would pay a certain price to her advertising company.

Once I suggested this to her, she immediately liked the idea because it would greatly cut down on her initial marketing dollars spent. She specified that her task would be to create an account on her site to browse her selection of books. Because the specific task was a little more involved, her cost per action was a little higher. Once the program got rolling she decided that CPA marketing was the best idea that she’s ever heard and now doesn’t do her online marketing any other way.

CPA marketing is a better alternative

Last summer, I spent most of my marketing budget on some advertising with a site online.  I felt really disappointed with my result because I felt that I wasn’t getting anything and if there was an increase in my traffic, I couldn’t tell what it was from.  Then, my accountant suggested that I look into trying CPA marketing instead.  The concept itself was not brand new to me, but the technical term for it was.  Basically, it is Internet advertising that I would pay for each time a person completes a specific task, like registering their email with my site, or completing a survey, or even sending in more referrals.

To me, this seems like a much better use of my money because I would be able to see where my traffic was coming from.  I would really be able to see if my online advertising efforts were paying off.  It also can be less risky because I am only paying for specific tasks instead of paying for a chunk of advertising and not seeing direct results.  Once I started researching CPA marketing, I found that companies typically pay anywhere from forty five cents per action up to about four dollars an action.

Sometimes, it can be hard to measure how well your marketing dollars are working or even if it’s hitting the right target. But now, CPA marketing is making a big splash in the marketing world is a better marketing tool than traditional methods. CPA marketing stands for cost per action and it is commonly used with online advertising. It will pay the advertiser each time a someone does a specific task like obtaining a registered email, or completing a survey. This particular method of marketing works well because it requires a person to do a specific task.

This method can really tell you if your marketing ploys are working and also tell you more about your potential clients. One of the conditions could be completing a survey so you can find out even more about each person. Another reason this is a better model is because you are only paying for the specific task completed. You have not wasted money on advertising no one is even looking at. With CPA marketing, your advertising dollar is more powerful because you are only paying for those that are interested enough complete the specific task. Instead of paying a lot of money for general marketing, spend the right amount of money for an exact number.
